George William Hartman was born on September 12, 1841, and died on April 17, 1897, of Bright's disease at the age of 55.
George married Maria Elizabeth Durboraw (aka Grandma Hartman) on December 29, 1863. They were married for just over 33 years when he passed away. Grandma Hartman lived 38 years as a widow.
The Hartmans had 6 children. Alice May preceeded George in death (when she was just 6 years old). The other children ranged in age from 17 to 32 years at the time of George's passing.
George's obituary ran in the Gettysburg Compiler on April 20, 1897. It is a bit difficult to read, so the retyped version is directly below the newspaper copy. There were a couple of errors in the article which I corrected in red in the retyped version.
